When Curious George Goes Bad…

Wow. Who would have thought that Curious George would be bad for our kids?

The most recent recall on the US Consumer Product Safety Commission’s site is a set of Curious George figures manufactured in China that may cause your kids to be exposed to lead-based paints.

It’s a set of 12-inch high Curious George dolls with a plastic face. Evidently the hat and face used lead-based paints, which has been known to cause health issues for a very long time. It’s a set of five dolls: birthday, fireman, sweet dreams, tool time and tool time with a soft face. The plush dolls were sold with a Curious George storybook or activity book.

These dolls have been sold between 2005 and 2007 and the recall includes the following product and SKU #s…

• Birthday 90253/ 8-83199-90253-5
• Fireman 90246/ 8-83199-90246-7
• Sweet Dreams 90247/ 8-83199-90247-4
• Tool Time 90251/ 8-83199-90251-1
• Tool Time (soft face) 90251/ 8-83199-90251-1

If you have any of these toys, you should immediately take them from your children (as best you can) and contact Marvel toys at (800) 352-2064 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. CT Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s Web site at www.regcen.com/curiousgeorge.

Scary how many toys are being recalled that were manufactured in China… Hopefully we’ll have more stringent requirements for toys imported from overseas soon.

Hey all!

As a parent of two little girls and uncle to several other little ones, I thought it was time to try and give back a bit. I’m always concerned about my children playing with safe toys and with all the toy recalls, I’m even more worried than usual.

I’m going to use this forum to do the following:

1) Write about cool, safe toys for kids…

2) Write about the toy recalls and what you should do…
